These writings are from the late Asa Maxson who died at age of 104.

The earlist record of this family in England is that of John Makkesone and his wife Agnes of Disley, East Cheshire. They were living in the year 1333. A study of early English records reveals the fact that this family name was spelled in many ways in its early history. Makkesone, Makkeson, Maggson, Magsen, Magson, Mackson, Macson, Maxon, and Maxson. Many of the older members of the family name Maxson claim to be of Scotch-Irish descent.

This seems to lend credence to the following:

Legend has it that late in the 1500's two Scotish clans were at war. One of these was known as the Max clan. During the last battle all except one of the Max clan were killed. This one a tough boy, escped to England wherehe became known as Maxson. This boy is believed to be the Richard Maxson, the first Maxson to come to America in 1634. Richard landed somewhere on the coast of Masschrssetts and began trading with the Indians. When the Pequot war broke out, the settlerssaught safety on a ship at anchor off shore. Several of the men including Richard and his 12 year old son went ashore for supplies. They were attacked by the Indians and all killed. Richards wife was among thoseon the ship that finally made their way to Rhode Island. Here she gave birth to a son named John in 1638.
